News from the villages (August - September)

On 27th August, Hannah, Judith and Jakob’s were given farewell at RSV. All the students from RSV, teachers and senior students from Ghosaldanga and Bishnubati took part. On 28th they left for Bandel stayed there for the night and on 29th early morning went to the airport to go to Germany.  Uttom Baski, Gobinda Baski, Boro Baski and Joschka accompanied them all the way to the airport. 

On 27th, Mr. Monish Das, a film maker and his team came to RSV school. Mr. Das is planning to  make a film on the relevance of Rabindranath’s idea of education being practiced around Santiniketan. On his four day trip to Santiniketan he visited Patha Bhavana, Suchana, Shishu Tirtha and many other organization experimenting with Tagore's ideas of education.   

On 31st August, the members of Ghosaldanga and Bishnubati (Pada Murmu, Lakhiram Tudu, Bimol Baski, Kalidasi Mardi from Panchabanpur, Gokul Hansda, Boro Baski and others) presented a song-and-music-performance at Balipare, Santiniketan on the occasion of the Santal festival of HUL. The songs we presented are from the CD album that we are working on with the help of funds from Ludwig Pesch’s foundation. Some of our friends who came from Bandel, Raiganj and Malda also helped us with the instrumental music. The audience enjoyed and appreciated our one and half hour musical programme very much.

 On 5th September, Teacher's Day was celebrated with joy and enthusiasm at Prantik Campus of Ghosaldanga. All the teachers and staff from GASS, BAMS and RSV took part. Dr. Monika Golembiewski was the chief guest of the programme. At the end everybody had dinner at Ghosaldanga.

On 6th and 7th Sept, a two-day football tournament was organized by the youth of Ghosadanga and Bishnubati. 24 teams from various Santal villages of Birbhum District took part. The RSV hostel football team also participated and won the 5th position and got 9 jerseys as the prize. The first prize of the tournament was a steel Almira. The tournament was peaceful and hundreds people watched the tournament for two days.

We are giving a farewell to Joschka on 19th September morning at RSV and on the same day evening he will leave for Kalimpong and Varanasi. He will come back for a day to pick up his luggage and will leave for Kolkata and to Germany.
